It is a technique where a thin layer of stone is applied to the interior or exterior of a building. They are usually over a non-stone material such as concrete.
The main purpose is to reduce the weight of the building’s natural stone, as well as to save on construction costs. Natural stone can be installed using either a wet or dry method.
In the wet method, a mortar mix of cement or adhesives is used to secure the stone to the wall. In the dry method, the stones are mechanically attached to the wall through drilling and bolting or by arranging them on a metal frame system.
Cladding serves as a decorative covering made from genuine or simulated stone. It can be used to cover walls made of concrete, steel or cement.
The materials used for cladding may include natural stones like granite, sandstone, slate or lightweight materials that mimic the appearance of natural stone, such as veneer.
